Dreamroom productions Wins Big in $20.4 mUSD Copyright Suit Judgment

SANTA ANA, Calif. — A federal judge last week signed off on a $20.4 million judgment against the operator of a now-defunct porn membership site accused of poaching and streaming 272 videos from a competing Japanese-language porn site owner, Dreamroom Productions.

The copyright suit, originally filed more six years ago, charged that the operator of Movie-Revolution.com, Koji Ban and parent company HHSI Inc. of Irvine, Calif., ripped the films from Dreamroom’ s collection of sites, which include sexually explicit video and stills of Asian women in bukkake, glamor, bikini and fetish scenes, as well as hentai video sites.

Los Angeles-based Dreamroom Productions operates Japanese-language porn sites MuraMura.tv, PacoPacoMama.com, 10 MuseMe.com, 1Pondo.tv, Carribeancom.com and Heyzo.com, among others.

In response to the suit, Ban claimed that Movie-Revolution.com was merely a file locker site and that users uploaded the material. However, that claim later was found to not hold water.

Dreamroom Productions, which owns copyrights on the videos, filed its suit in 2008 and won a 2011 permanent injunction against Movie-Revolution.com.

The $20.4 million judgment represents statutory damages of $75,000 for willful infringement of each of the 272 Dreamroom Productions copyrighted works applied in the case.

Good news for the Japanese Adult Video business in the kaigai market and inside Japan. This represents one of the biggest judgments to date  for mass outright theft of Japanese AV movies and photos. File locker, theft-forums and other individuals engaged in the willful theft of Japanese content need to start looking over their shoulders, as Aniki is looking for you and is not playing games.
