TOKYO (TR) – It’s been a busy 12 months for adult video starlet Mana Sakura — and now she can claim to be the industry’s queen.
At the climax of the Sky PerfecTV! Adult Broadcasting Awards held earlier this month, the 21-year-old was presented with the Best Actress award from a field six contestants.
“This is like a dream,” said a gushing Sakura, attired in a revealing red evening gown. “Here in my chest I will forever treasure the support and encouragement of each of my fans and the members of the production company.”
Held in a theater in Shibuya Ward, the somewhat tongue-in-cheek annual event uses online voting by fans to present to present a number of awards to the top female stars appearing on the more than 10,000 AV programs broadcast last year on the nearly 20 adult channels on the Sky PerfecTV! satellite network.
Other notable awards went to Moe Amatsuka (Best New Actress) and Ayumi Shinoda (Best Mature Actress). The Best Picture award was presented to a lesbian feature from Rainbow Channel starring Saki Hatsumi and Chika Arimura.
But the night belonged to Sakura, a representative from the Splash channel who also walked away with the Flash media prize.
Soon after “Mana Sakura: AV Debut” hit the market in 2012 users on Twitter rightly fingered her as a student enrolled at a technical junior college. He popularity subsequently soared. At the Sky PerfecTV! Adult Broadcasting Awards the following year, she was crowned Best New Actress.
Last September, Sakura began blogging for Toyota. Three months later, her likeness appeared in 3D software for the Oculus Rift headset.
Her latest project is “When I Was 18, I Found My Vocation,” a 143-page collection of essays released by publisher Takarajimasha in January that offers her views on why she entered the profession and insights into the industry itself, such as the salary of an actress and acting techniques.
“This was not a consideration back when I was a student working hard with surveying instruments,” said said Sakura about the Best Actress prize. “I don’t want this wonderful moment to end.”
The ceremonies concluded with many of the nominees tossing rolled panties to the audience.
